I want to talk about why people get stuck in their jobs and struggle to make a change and move forward in their career.
This short video can help:
One of the reasons people get stuck and don’t move forward is that they struggle to find the time.
They’re so busy working in their job and doing their daily routine, they don’t make the time required to work on their career development.
A lot of people are faced with only learning what’s put in front of them because they don’t have the time and space to step back and look at what else is out there. Or even to consider what else could they be doing that they would enjoy.
Asking yourself the questions:
- How do I want to grow in this job?
- Am I doing the things that I really enjoy?
- What else could I be doing?
Working with your employers on your career development is a great way to progress your career, but its important to recognise that the employers will be focusing your development towards what is best for the employer.
Maybe you feel like your career is not progressing in the right direction or maybe you feel stuck where you are.
If you’re feeling stuck in your career and you don’t feel like you’re moving forward, create some space in your schedule to self-reflect. Have a look at what it is you want to be doing.
If you need help, maybe you have a colleague, manager or a mentor you can ask.
Another option to explore your own career development is to work closely with a career coach, who will create a safe space where you can explore what is it you really want to be doing. Each week taking a little bit of time out of your day to self-reflect and explore:
- What it is you really want to be doing in your job?
- What makes you happy and truly inspires you?
- Why you want to stay in this job? Or
- Why you want to make a change? and
- What would that change look like?
A career coach will help you to focus on what is best for you, irrespective of what is best for the employer.
So, if you’d like to find out more about how a career coach can help you in your career development, I offer a free initial consultation where you can tell me your story and we can discuss how the career coaching services I offer can help you move forward.
